Christian Weaver is a human rights barrister, two-time author and founder of The Law in 60 Seconds, a pioneering platform dedicated to making the law accessible to everyone. Having played an integral part in several important public inquiries, including various nationwide ones, Christian has seen first-hand the impact of accountability, institutional failure, civil liberties and more.
After achieving his Bachelor of Laws and completing his Bar Professional Training Course, both at Nottingham Law School, Christian was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2016, taking on a role within the UK Delegation to Congress with the Council of Europe the following year. He later became a part of the Casework Team for INQUEST and volunteered with Liberty’s advice and information service, where he built strong foundations for his current practices in inquests and actions against the state. In 2018, he founded The Law in 60 Seconds, an educational initiative helping to make the law approachable to anyone. Since 2019, Christian has served as a Barrister with Garden Court North Chambers and has been a key figure in multiple significant cases. He was a member of the team representing over 6,000 bereaved families in the UK COVID-19 Public Inquiry, as well as the Covid Vaccine Injured and Bereaved group, and represented an interested person in the Southport attacks. Christian also served as the barrister for the family of Awaab Ishak, a two-year-old boy who died from long-term mould exposure in the family’s Rochdale flat. Christian’s help on the case and his following campaigning aided in the implementation of Awaab’s Law, which required landlords to remediate hazardous housing conditions within a fixed timeframe.
Combining his knowledge and passion for education, Christian has published two books related to civil liberties and public rights. In 2021, he published the groundbreaking ‘The Law In 60 Seconds’, a pocket guide to general legal advice, and ‘Your Right to Protest’, which details how to successfully and legally make your voice heard. He is also a contributing writer to The Guardian and INews. As a result of his incredible work, Christian has been honoured with various accolades. He has been ranked in the Lawyer Hot 100, is the recipient of the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award, Barrister of the Year at the Greater Manchester Pro Bono Awards and was recognised as a Big Issue Changemaker. Most recently, he was awarded the Pegasus Scholarship by The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, which he will undertake in Malaysia.
Committed to inspiring the next generation of law practitioners, social justice advocates, and human rights champions, Christian’s talks not only embolden audiences to act but also educate them on the seemingly complex and mysterious world of legal systems and civic rights. He has been featured across a multitude of media and events, from BBC Breakfast, the BBC Podcast, Cheltenham and Oxford’s Literature Festivals, and has even worked with Cambridge University’s Law faculty on public legal education content.
