Basil Brush is one of Britain’s most popular fictional characters, who rose to fame on UK children’s television. He is best known for starring in 'The Basil Brush Show' and his iconic catchphrase "Boom! Boom!". A well-loved character, Basil is a highly sought-after entertainer for a range of events and functions.
Voiced by Ivan Owen for almost 40 years, Basil first appeared in the series 'The Three Scampies' in the 1960s before becoming a supporting act for the magician David Nixon on his BBC shows 'Nixon at Nine Five' and 'The Nixon Line'. Having been offered his own programme, Basil went on to host 'The Basil Brush Show' for 12 years, with special guest appearances from celebrities including Cilla Black and Petula Clark. The character continued to grow their place in British television, hosting 'Let’s Read With Basil Brush' before co-hosting the beloved children’s series 'Crackerjack'. A new generation of viewers was introduced to the character when 'The Basil Brush Show' was rebooted in 2002.
Today, Basil continues to entertain audiences across the UK through live performances, television appearances and touring productions. He has appeared on popular TV programmes including The Last Leg, QI, Pointless, The Weakest Link and The Goodies. Basil regularly performs at Butlin’s Big Weekenders and stars in local pantomime productions. He has also found success with his adult comedy show 'Basil Brush Unleashed' alongside Mr Martin, including a popular run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019.
Basil is hired for events because of his rare ability to connect with and entertain audiences of every generation, remaining relevant from the 1960s through to the present day.
