Anthony Barry is the current England Assistant Manager under the professional German football manager, Thomas Tuchel. With over twenty years of operating within the world of football, Anthony has become an expert in effective leadership, teamwork, and coaching high performers. His unique and invaluable insights on how England is aiming to win the World Cup for the first time in 60 years have made him a highly sought-after speaker.
Beginning his career playing football, Anthony signed for Everton as a trainee before joining Coventry City as a regular reserve. In 2005, he signed with Accrington Stanley for the first time, making a respectable 26 Conference appearances. Anthony then signed with Yeovil before being released and joining Chester City. In 2010, he signed with Fleetwood Town, where he was named in the Conference Team of the Year. After three years, he joined Forest Green Rovers before going on loan to Accrington Stanley for the rest of the 2014-15 season. Anthony signed with Wrexham, which would be his final club in his playing career. He started his coaching career in 2015, managing a team of under-16s. Following his retirement from professional football, he served as the assistant coach at Wigan Athletic before joining Chelsea as the first-team coach in 2020 under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, coaching the Republic of Ireland team at the same time. In 2022, he joined Belgium’s coaching team, where he was cited as coaching the world’s number one-ranked team, going on to take on another dual role by joining the Portugal National Team and moving to Bayern Munich as coaching staff when Thomas Tuchel took over as manager. In 2024, it was announced that Anthony would be joining the England coaching staff as assistant manager, aiming to see England win the 2026 World Cup.
Throughout his incredible career, Anthony has coached some of the world’s most successful players, from Harry Kane and Kevin de Bruyne to the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been featured across a multitude of media, such as the BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, The Times, The New York Times and more. Anthony is also a member of The Lost Boys Taskforce, a coalition of male leaders across a variety of sectors to build a nationwide network of Trusted Adults to help guide young boys and men who may be adrift in society and need positive role models.
