John Virgo

Legendary Snooker Player Turned Commentator

Winner of the British Snooker U16s championship four months after being introduced to the sport, it was obvious that John Virgo was a natural snooker talent. Turning professional in 1976, John went on to enjoy an illustrious career, regularly ranking as a top 10 player in the world. A wonderful snooker speaker and TV presenter, John’s consummate professionalism ensures he entertains and engages with audiences both off and onscreen.

In 1979, John reached the peak of his career, making it to the semi-finals of the World Championship as well as enjoying victory in the UK Championship. John’s form during the competition was impressive, beating Tony Meo, Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor en route to the final. Despite being controversially docked two frames in the final due to miscommunication about the start time, Virgo overcame Terry Griffith and his ‘bore him to death’ tactics. Virgo’s consistency and ability to perform under pressure are attributes both applicable for social and business environments alike, making him a formidable snooker speaker.

Hugely experienced in appearing for exhibition matches, Virgo is a trick-shot expert and wonderful impressionist of both past and present snooker stars. A fantastic personality to have at events, John will entertain and engage guests as a sports speaker and ensure everyone enjoys proceedings. A regular on snooker and entertainment shows as a TV Presenter, John’s extensive knowledge and onscreen demeanour ensure he is in regular demand for sporting programmes and documentaries.
