British Olympic speaker and retired sportswoman, Ashia Hansen MBE is a former triple jumper who represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games and four World Championships. Embarking on her international career aged 17 Ashia Hansen MBE experienced a great deal of racial prejudices during the early part of her career, highlighting the problems faced by ethnic minorities within athletics in her work as a sports speaker Ashia has helped to raise the profile of the existance racism and prejudice in UK sport over the last twenty years.
Thanks to her numerous successes, including two gold medals at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games respectively and two World Indoor Championship winning titles, Ashia Hansen MBE is remembered not for her race but for her abilities. Her work as an Olympic speaker does not just cover the prejudices faced by athletes of colour but also highlights the determination and dedication required of every athlete in order to achieve their goals.
