Receiving an education at a Catholic convent school before going on to study French and philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. Bea’s hobbies including being part of a student sketch comedy group before she moved to London following her graduation to pursue an education in acting. Having completed a two-year course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2008, Aisling Bea had taken all of the necessary steps to ensure she was ready to take on the world of performing.
Initially spending two years attempting to get a role in theatre as a dramatic actress, Aisling began to realise the majority of her castings were in comical roles within productions such as Cardinal Burns and Dead Boss. Trying her hand at stand-up comedy, Bea found her niche as she was awarded the Gilded Balloon So You Think You’re Funny award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe just a year after she started followed by being nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards for her show C’est La Bea a year later. As a speaker, Aisling Bea not only shares tales and anecdotes about her journey within comedy, she also has audiences’ in hysterics by delivering the very jokes that have led to her ever growing reputation.
Using her recognition as somewhat of a springboard for success, Aisling began to be a regular guest on various panel shows including QI and Insert Name Here before co-writing and co-hosting the BBC Radio 4 comedy folklore series Micks and Legends, a show that was nominated for a Chortle Award. The winner of the 2014 British Comedy Award for Best Female TV Comic, Aisling returned to Edinburgh the following year with her hit live show, Plan Bea. Becoming a team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats as well as a cast member on Taskmaster in 2017, Aisling Bea’s popularity and recognisability has been in incline for a number of years.
Not only successful as a stand-up and comedian, Aisling Bea has also continued to act in television sitcoms including the likes of Trollied and The Delivery Man.
