
Marc Raibert is a pioneer in the field of robotics. After receiving his Ph.D. from MIT, Marc began his career working as a Technical Staff Member at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He then moved into academia and became an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. While in that role, Marc founded the Leg Laboratory and his work saw significant steps forward in robotics. Taking inspiration from the agility of animals, Marc developed the world’s first self-balancing hopping robots. In 1986, Marc returned to MIT as a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
In 1992, Marc became the Founder and CEO of Boston Dynamics, an engineering and robotics design company. In 2005, Boston Dynamics made the BigDog robot, a quadruped robot designed for the U.S. Military. They also designed the Cheetah, a four legged robot that can gallop at an astounding 28mph, breaking the land speed record for legged robots. In 2019, their canine-inspired robot, Spot, became the company’s first commercially available robot. Executive Directors of the RAI Institute, and a Founding Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, Marc is dedicated to the advancement and development of AI and robotics.
