As a child, Meg struggled to find positive role models who shared her background, coming from the only black family in the neighbourhood. When she was just 13 years old, Meg was diagnosed with a number of mental health illnesses, including depression, anxiety and anorexia. At 14 and 16, Meg attempted suicide, yet despite such adversity, she managed to complete her studies with superb grades. Whilst studying at university, on her 20th birthday, Meg attempted suicide again, surviving the attempt and left feeling unsupported in her situation. Motivated to ensure that no one else suffering from mental health illnesses would go through the same treatment as she did, Meg founded My Mind Matters Too to support research into youth mental health. To further emphasise her passions for inclusion and support, Meg also acted as the Vice Director of Our Experience, an open space for women of colour and non-binary people of colour to share their experiences.
In 2018, Meg became the founder and CEO of MindMapper, a platform created to connect young adults with mental health support quickly and easily. With 90% of 16-25-year-olds receiving no support for their mental health, Meg is determined to help more young adults receive the support they deserve, so they do not have to experience what she did. MindMapper has already impacted over 40,000 people across the UK, recognised in publications such as The Guardian and on the BBC and Channel 5 News. Meg also acts as an Advisory Board Member of BecomingX, a 20:40 Member and an Ambassador for One Young World, and has formerly worked as the Mental health Project Coordinator for EACH Counselling and Support. In recognition of her passion for mental health, Meg has been recognised as an Inside Out 2021 Emerging Wellbeing Leader, been named on the Diana Award Roll of Honour 2019 and named a Top 10 Rare Rising Star.
Also awarded the King’s Global Experience Award and the King’s Leadership & Professional Skills Award from King’s College London, it is without a doubt why Meg is considered an industry-leading authority on mental health and wellbeing. Having worked with companies such as Amazon, Booking.com, Santander, KPMG and Clifford Chance to name but a few, Meg is highly sought after as a keynote speaker on mental health and wellbeing.
