Lauren Steadman has competed at the highest international level in both swimming and paratriathlon. Undeterred by her physical disability, Lauren has achieved unparalleled success as a British athlete, and in every aspect of her life, winning a total of twenty-seven titles to date. Be inspired by a role model like no other, with a compelling and entertaining after-dinner speech from Lauren, where she instils her mental resilience, winning mindset and empowering motivation in audiences. The honour of any athlete's career is the Olympics, and Lauren is no exception, taking to the Paralympic stage for team Great Britain on three occasions. First competing aged only fifteen, having swum for eleven years, Lauren represented her country in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, proving a determined competitor.
This determination has been exemplified throughout Lauren’s life as she has faced challenges due to being born missing the lower part of her right arm, making her achievements even more inspiring. Again in swimming, Lauren represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympics, before switching to paratriathlon, where she ran, swam and sprinted her way to becoming the 2016 Rio Paralympics silver medalist. Equally formidable at the World Championships and European Championships, Lauren has won a spectacular twenty-one gold medals and five silver medals outside of the Olympics. Most recently, in 2021, Lauren competed in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games claiming a Paralympic Gold in the PTS5 Triathlon. At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, Lauren claimed Silver in the PTS5. As part of the New Year Honours list, she was awarded an MBE in 2022.
In 2013 she took to the podium at the European Paratriathlon Championship, as the first-place winner, a feat she returned to accomplish again for the next five consecutive years, as an unbeaten champion. On the world stage, Lauren has seen her ambition and hard work pay dividends as the Paratriathlon World Champion in 2014 and 2015. Empowering others is at the forefront of Lauren’s motivations and she has raised her media profile in order to prove the only boundaries are the ones we set ourselves. In 2018 Lauren reached the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing, and in the same year joined Channel 4 for their ‘Dare to Believe’ campaign. Most recently, Lauren has undertaken potentially the biggest mental and physical challenge of her life, being only one of two people to complete selection in SAS: Who Dares Wins.
Stunning the former special forces staff with her impressive display of mental resilience and bravery. An accomplished athlete, respected worldwide for overcoming the adversity she faced with disability, Lauren Steadman is a one-of-a-kind inspirational speaker for any occasion.
