Ian Mattioli is the co-founder and former CEO of Mattioli Woods, one of the UK’s leading consultancies in pensions and wealth management services for directors, professionals, businesses and small-to-medium PLCs. With over four decades of experience at the forefront of financial services and wealth management, Ian now serves as the company’s Founding President.
Co-founding Mattioli Woods alongside Bob Woods in 1991, Ian became the company’s CEO in 2005 when the group was admitted to AIM. During his time as CEO, Ian’s responsibilities lay with the vision and organisational management of the group, helping to create the investment in a property initiative that led to the launch of Custodian REIT, now known as Custodian Property Income REIT plc and of which he is a Non-Executive Director. In 2016, Ian and his wife established the Mattioli Charitable Trust, where they look to develop opportunities for disadvantaged communities and champion the importance of community and diversity. In 2017, Ian became the chair of K3 Capital Group, a role he maintained until 2023, when the company successfully became private and de-listed on AIM. The same year, Ian became a Non-Executive Chair for Kanobo Group before being appointed Pro-Chancellor at De Montfort University. In 2024, Mattioli Woods was acquired by Pollen Street Capital as part of a £432 million deal, making the listed company private. Following this significant move for the business, Ian stepped back from the day-to-day operations of Mattioli Woods, acting now as Founding Partner.
As a result of his incredible work at the intersection of wealth and management, Ian has received a number of awards and accolades. He was named London Stock Exchange AIM Entrepreneur of the Year and CEO of the Year at the 2018 City of London Wealth Management Awards. Ian was appointed MBE in 2017 for his services to business and community in Leicestershire, only to be named High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 2021. After receiving an honorary degree from the University of Leicester the following year, Ian was made Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire, demonstrating his commitment to the community and local life.
A committed and hardworking individual, Ian now shares his expertise with audiences interested in financial and organisational management. With first-hand knowledge of establishing and scaling businesses, Ian shares the importance and realities of strategising successful exits. A valuable figure in the communities of Leicestershire and beyond, Ian’s down-to-earth discussions offer leaders practical, actionable advice that can be implemented efficiently and immediately.
