Toby Lewis is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a leading cyber security practitioner, with nearly 25 years of experience in security operations, cyber threat intelligence, threat hunting and incident management. Having led an illustrious career, including working with the UK Civil Service in several capacities, Toby currently serves as the Global Head of Threat Analysis at Darktrace. A seasoned public speaker, he is now available to book for events related to cybersecurity, technology and artificial intelligence.
Toby obtained a Master’s in Engineering from the University of Bristol before embarking on his successful journey in the realm of cybersecurity. Now leading a team of over 100 analysts, Toby has always exemplified leadership in any role he has held. Whether as a British Army Reservist or a former member of the British Intelligence Service, he has played a pivotal role in each of his roles in his career. Founding Member & Deputy Technical Director for Incident Management of the UK National Cyber Security Centre, Toby has been entrenched in the UK Government’s response to numerous cyber security threats across 15 years.
As a State Threats Task Force Member for the Royal United Services Institute, Toby, along with other experts, helps the UK detect, understand and respond to malicious threats to the state. His reputation precedes him, and therefore Toby has been invited to deliver talks and presentations at NCSC’s CyberUK Conference and the inaugural SANS Cyber Threat Conference amongst several other notable stages. He has also been invited to speak on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Newsnight and the WIRED Smarter conference, to share his two cents on imminent cybersecurity threats.
Aside from being at the helm of the assimilation of AI and Machine Learning within the field of cybersecurity, Toby is also keen on diversifying the community. In the same vein, he has been the Lead Contributor to the first-ever CyberFirst Girls Competition – demonstrating his dedication to introducing much-needed gender diversity & inclusion in the field.
