
Mishal Husain is an esteemed journalist, broadcaster and author, who has had a long and distinguished career. Best known for her work with the BBC, Mishal has recently taken on the role of Editor-at-large for Bloomberg News. A Broadcaster of the Year award winner and a recipient of the Services to Media award at the British Muslim Awards, Mishal is a powerhouse of British broadcasting.
Mishal began her career at Bloomberg Television in 1996 as a producer and occasional presenter. In 1998 she joined the BBC as a junior producer for News 24 before moving to the Economics and Business Unit. It wasn’t long before Mishal moved in front of the camera and she worked on a number of high profile shows including the daily “Breakfast” programme and “Asia Business Report”. She also worked as a presenter of business news on both BBC World News and the BBC News Channel. In 2002, Mishal took on the esteemed role of BBC’s Washington correspondent, and was the main news anchor during the invasion of Iraq and the war.
Throughout her career, Mishal has also appeared as a presenter on “BBC News at Ten”, “BBC News at Six”, “HARDtalk”, “Impact”, and “Newsnight”. She was also part of the BBC’s Olympic and Commonwealth Games presenting teams. In 2024, Mishal was selected to chair and referee televised debates on the BBC, the first between the leaders of the seven largest UK political parties, and the second a head-to-head debate between Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer. “The Times” described her handling of the debate as “stunning” and “Tatler” described it as a “masterclass in broadcasting.” In 2024, Mishal left the BBC to join Bloomberg News as editor-at-large of it’s Weekend Edition. Mishal has also published two books, “The Skills”, a guide for women on how to achieve their career goals, and her memoir in 2024, which became a Sunday Times Bestseller.
