Mike England

Mike England MBE is a former Welsh football player and manager. With a playing career that ran from 1959 until 1980 Mike is known as one of the greatest Welsh players of his generation, as well as being the youngest permanent Wales captain, until recently.

Signing his first professional contract aged only fifteen, Blackburn Rovers saw talent in England and he was scouted for the squad. Playing a total of seven years for the side, he gained the attention of top clubs due to his skilled performance in defense, and in 1966 he joined Tottenham Hotspurs.

Rising to fame during his time at Spurs, England achieved as impressive three domestic titles, including the FA Cup, in addition to the UEFA Home Championship and the Europa League. Adored by fans and praised by players, Mike England was inducted into the Tottenham FC Hall of Fame as a club legend. After nine glorious years, he transferred to Seattle Sounders and moved stateside.

The Welsh national also represented his country impeccably, gaining a total of forty-four caps throughout his career. Once he had retired from professional play, Mike transitioned into management and lead the Welsh national team for eight years. A longstanding career developed through hard work was recognised in achievements as a player were recognised with the awarding of an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen.

More recently England has returned to the stage as a football speaker, appearing on radio shows and as a guest at specialist sports events.
