Michaela Strachan

Michaela Strachan’s extensive broadcasting career has included a wide variety of TV shows, from children’s morning TV, to pop culture to wildlife. Now, she is most well-known for her shows about animals and wildlife conservation, and has become a hugely respected presenter who travels all over the world, and has years of experience and knowledge.

A performer from a young age, a career on television seemed inevitable for Michaela, and she landed a position presenting for children’s breakfast show The Wide-Awake Club in 1986. The show, which aired every weekend, soon established Michaela as a good-humoured and popular presenter and launched her career, as she took on other children’s TV shows, such as Michaela on Sunday.

In 1988, Michaela branched out into late night TV, co-hosting The Hitman and Her with Pete Waterman. The show looked at night club culture in Britain, and soon became very popular, as the longest running night-time TV show in the country.

Having been passionate about wildlife for her whole life, she joined OWL TV in 1989, and from there her career flourished. She went on to present The Really Wild Show, which ran for 14 years and Michaela’s Challenge, for which Michaela was awarded two BAFTAs for Best Factual Children’s programme and Best Children’s Presenter. Since then, she has added to her extensive repertoire with shows like Michaela’s Zoo Babies, The Elephant Diaries, Animal Rescue Squad and 10 years on Countryfile. Most recently, she has presented Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch.

Michaela has also written a book Michaela Strachan’s Really Wild Adventures, which has been turned into a one-woman stage show, that she tours up and down the country. It has also been adapted to be performed at zoos and events. She has also had a song written about her by Scouting for Girls; ‘Michaela Strachan Broke My Heart’!
