Frank Gardner OBE


Journalist and TV presenter Frank Gardner OBE is the UK’s first full-time Security Correspondent, reporting and analysing for BBC TV, radio and online on issues of both domestic and international security.

Beginning his career as a television and radio presenter in 1995 Frank Gardner OBE had previously worked as an investment banker in New York, London and Bahrain, but was drawn to journalism following a thirst for information and accuracy. Since becoming one of the BBC’s leading TV presenters Gardner has reported from warzones around the world, breaking global news stories and reporting on a number of controversial incidents over the last twenty years.

As a TV presenter Frank Gardner OBE has reported extensively on the global War on Terror, filming on location in Guantanamo Bay, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. It was whilst reporting from Saudi Arabia in 2004 that Gardner was shot six times at close range by Al-Qaeda terrorists. Only to recover and continue to work as a war and security correspondent in the area.

As well as his work as a television and radio presenter Frank Gardner is a best-selling author, his book Blood and Sand, exploring the way in which your belief system can change following a cultural attack. Frank is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has given evidence to various UK Parliamentary Select Committees on the conduct of the ‘War on Terrorism’. Awarded an OBE for his services to journalism in 2005 Frank Gardner OBE is a passionate and informative news reporter whose work as a TV presenter has garnered millions of viewers around the world.
