Nadiya Hussain

To win one of Britain’s most popular TV shows is a dream for many, yet in 2015 this dream became a reality for Nadiya Hussain when she was crowned winner of the Great British Bake Off by Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry. A timid baker lacking self confidence in the early rounds of the competition, Nadiya developed into a star with her bakes not only tasting delicious but also being true masterpieces of design.

Arguably the most popular winner of the show, Nadiya’s winning speech moved Mary Berry to tears as she encouraged everyone to believe in themselves and to never say that they can’t do something; one key lesson she would be taking forward into her life after the competition.

It’s been a whirlwind journey for Nadiya since her win with a number of TV appearances, including the likes of The One Show, as well as going down such a storm as a guest panellist on Loose Women that she has since become a full time member of the team.

She is set to release her first cookbook, Nadiya’s Kitchen, and also a children’s book, Bake Me A Story, and is a regular columnist for The Times and Essentials. The pinnacle of her success since winning the show came when she was asked to bake the official cake for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, opting for a three tier orange drizzle that the Queen successfully cut into.

It really is a breath-taking and inspiring story which all began 10 years ago thanks to a home economics teacher who saw the talent Nadiya had to offer and encouraged her to bake, bake and then bake some more. She has since honed her skills and her many hours of baking practice came to fruition in the Bake Off tent as she simply blew away the competition. Nadiya is now available for cookery demonstrations where she can pass her tips and techniques on to others as well as speaking engagements whereby her talks centre around her journey from wife and mother to one of the best loved bakers in the country.

“Nadiya went down really well with our audiences. She captured and maintained the audiences’ attention, and her story was a great way to normalise and humanise the topics of religion and identity. Her candour, and warm and open nature were really appreciated by our attendees.” – Becca Taffs, BlackRock
