British film and television actor Karl Howman is well known to many audience members for his work with the legendary comedy writing duo John Esmonde and Bob Larbey in the late 1980’s. Appearing as Jacko in Esmonde & Larbey’s Brush Strokes and Mulberry in Mulberry Howman is a versatile and memorable actor who has played a number of both comic and dramatic roles.
Appearing on both the big and small screens Karl Howman’s filmography includes a vast range of genres, from the video Nasty Expose (1976), 1980’s gangster hit The Long Good Friday and, more recently, the Anglo-American rom-com The Truth About Love (2005). In all these roles Howman has been applauded for his rich and engaging performances, as an actor Karl is known for his range and professionalism, alongside his willingness to go to great lengths to fulfil the requirements of each part.
Working as an actor consistently for the past forty years Howman has worked alongside some of the biggest names in British film and television including Peter Davidson, Robert Lindsay and Ronnie Barker. Karl will be known to many for his recurring role in the Flash cleaning products commercials and for a number of voice roles on dramas and comedies for BBC Radio.
In 2014 Karl Howman became one of the regular actors for the BBC soap EastEnders, where he plays ex-con Buster Briggs. With theatrical talent running in the family Howman’s daughters Katy and Chloe have also embarked on acting careers; Chloe currently appears in another BBC soap, Casualty, where she plays staff sister Rita Freeman alongside actors Amanda Mealing and William Beck.
