John McEnroe

Former Tennis World number one John McEnroe is one of the best known sporting personalities of all time. With an unrivaled trophy collection amassed over two decades of professional play, John had a career unlike any other player and now discusses it in fascinating detail as a keynote and after dinner speaker. With a wealth of knowledge, anecdotes and passion for the sport, John is one of the most popular and experienced sports speakers on the circuit.
During his career, John achieved the height of success in all worldwide competitions. Some of his greatest achievements include winning: nine men’s doubles Grand Slams, seven singles Grand Slams and one mixed Grand Slam. Recording his best season in 1984, with 82 wins compared to 3 losses; John created a longstanding record that has only come close to being beaten by one other player, Roger Federer, in 2005.

Despite the 1980s being seen as one of the golden eras of tennis, John was victorious over his competitors, time and time again. Winning Wimbledon on three occasions in 1981, 1983 and 1984, McEnroe joined an elite list of Tennis superstars to have won the competition three times.

Prior to turning professional in 1978, John made an appearance as an amateur at Wimbledon aged only 18. Signing his first ever endorsement with Sergio Tacchini, John went on to win five titles in his debut year, inlcuding his first Masters Grand Prix.

Retiring officially in 1994 John was considered one of the most successful Tennis players to ever have played and has since established himself as a highly desirable Tennis pundit and commentator. Transitioning into commentary, he has provided punditry for the BBC on multiple occasions and more recently broadcast for ESPN. McEnroe’s straight talking American style makes him one of the nation’s favourite tennis speakers and TV presenters.

As a tennis speaker, John tells the story of his illustrious success and how he managed to maintain an outstanding sporting record throughout the entire length of his career. During after dinner speeches as a sports speaker, John delivers invaluable advice concerning the drive and determination needed to perform in the highly pressurised environment that professional tennis provides and translates the lessons he learned into valuable lessons for a corporate and sporting environment.
