Scottish born motorsports speaker and racing expert, Derrick Walker has been involved in motorsports for more than thirty years beginning as a meagre mechanic for the Brabham Formula One team in 1970 where he worked under infamous owner Bernie Ecclestone.
After five years as the chief mechanic for Brabham Walker left to manage his own team and began working solely as a motorsports speaker and team co-ordinator.
Derrick Walker joined Penske in 1976 and stayed with the team for over a decade; whilst at Penske Walker had the privilege of working with a number of notable drivers and sports speakers including Rick Mears, Bobby Unser and Danny Sullivan.
Becoming general manager of the team’s manufacturing in 1977 Walker eventually became Vice President of the team and watched them win an impressive four PPG Cups (series championships) and four Indianapolis 500-mile races.
After the death of team owner Al Holbert in 1988 Derrick Walker became the team manager for Porsche Indy Car, eventually purchasing it entirely and rebranding it as Walker Motorsports. Proving himself both a successful businessmen and motorsports manager Derrick Walker began working as a sports speaker for his team shortly after they remerged in the early 1990’s.
Walker Motorsports has been the team of choice for a vast number of British and international drivers and motorsports speakers, playing host in it’s time to everyone from Willy T. Ribbs and Scott Goodyear to Robby Gordon and Gil de Ferran.
In 2004 Derrick Walker sold a share of Walker Motorsports to Australian businessmen Craig Gore and John Fish once again rebranding the team to Team Australia, who have played host to drivers Will Power and James Davison. Derrick Walker is also the co-owner of Formula BMW USA team Walker-Haberfeld Racing, with former Walker driver Mario Haberfeld.
