As a professional golfer, Ronan Rafferty enjoyed many years competing on the European Tour throughout the 1980s and 90s. Rafferty has garnered a reputation as a talented golfer and more recently, an after dinner speaker, thanks to his charismatic personality.
Winning a grand total of twelve official worldwide tour events within the late 80s and early 90s, he was one of the first Northern Irish golfers to consistently win on the European Tour, leading the way for others after him. Although a major win eluded him, Rafferty enjoyed a multitude of success claiming several victories, including five PGA Tour of Australasia titles and seven European Tours. Ranked in the Top 25 Official Golf Ranking for two years, Rafferty also competed in 1989 Ryder Cup team which was held at The Belfy that year.
Prior to beginning his professional career, Rafferty had great success as an amateur player. Rumored to have the best amateur handicap in the country, he won the Boys Amature Championship, qualified for the Open Championship and played in the Walker Cup all before his eighteenth birthday. The year before he made his professional debut Rafferty tied for first position with Peter McEvoy in the English Open Amature Stroke Play Championships in 1980.
Since retiring from professional play in 2003, Rafferty has gone on to become a sought after golf commentator and analyst, working as a broadcaster on some of the top sports channels including Dublin based Setana. He has also become a talented golf designer and developed courses in recent years.
Available to attend golf days and events as an after dinner speaker and specialist golf speaker, Ronan Rafferty is the ideal addition to any event. His attendance as a sports speaker at golf days allows any fanatic of the sport to begin to understand the requirements and struggles that occur to reach peak performance. During his appearances, Rafferty is approachable and talkative, returning to complete Question & Answer sessions, whilst also demonstrating his formidable skills on the course himself.
