Paul McGinley is a professional golfer and one of the European Tours’ leading lights. Selected as the captain of the European Ryder Cup team, Paul is recognised for his natural leadership qualities and dependable consistency under pressure in some of the largest golf events in the world. McGinley’s first European Tour win was at the 1996 Hohe Brucke Open, from there on McGinley became one of the most influential golfing figures in Europe. Finishing third on the European Order of Merit in 2005, McGinley made the cut in 21 of the 23 events he played in. Amassing an impressive ten professional wins in individual events, he has also featured on in the top 20 of the Official Golf Ranking. Competing in the 2002, 2004 and 2006 winning Ryder Cups, McGinley is perhaps best known for his ten-foot putt on the 18th hole against Jim Furyk that won Europe the title at the 2002 event. Chosen as a result of his fine performance in previous cups, he served as a vice-captain for the 2010 and 2012 Ryder Cups. Thanks to his string and insightful leadership, Paul was chosen as captain for the 2014 Ryder Cup, which was another victory for Europe, under his non-playing leadership.

Prior to his illustrious professional career, McGinley took up golf as an injury prevented him from paying football. After winning the Irish Amature Close Championships in 1989 followed by 1991 South of Ireland Championship got him selected for the Britain & Ireland Walker Cup in 1991. An impressive performance confirmed his destiny and later that year he turned professional.

One of the most prominent golf speakers at the moment, McGinley is at the forefront of European golf.
