Brian Barnes

Famous British Golfer

British golf speaker Brian Barnes remains one of the most famous golfers of his generation, famously beating Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bear, the popular American golfer and sports speaker, twice in a single day during the 1975 Ryder Cup.

Turning professional in 1964, Brian played golf for more than thirty years, retiring in 2000 he has since become a dedicated golf speaker making appearances as golf days and charity events across the UK.

With almost twenty professional wins under his belt, ranging from the Martini International European Tour in 1972 to the PGA Cup in 1990, Brian Barnes was a consistently successful and highly skilled golfer; in his work as a golf speaker he highlights the practice, commitment and intense training required to maintain such a fruitful career and discusses the incredibly competitive atmosphere of the European golfing circuit.

A memorable and interesting sports speaker Brian not only looks back fondly upon his time as a professional golfer but also relives some of his less successful moments; known for making one of the most atrocious putting performances ever seen in a professional tournament Barnes remembers his numerous failed attempts at a short putt during the 1968 French Open, which following his multiple misses, left him with a total of 15 on that hole alone.
