Prior to her national senior team debut in 2000, Unitt had represented England on sixteen occasions for their under 18s team. Over the course of four year, she achieved 102 caps for the country, played in major competitions and was one of the first seventeen women to be given a central contract by The Football Association. Impressively, Unitt has played for England at three UEFA Women’s Championship, in 2001, 2005 and 2009, as well as representing the team in the 2007 and 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Wearing the captain’s armband for the Euro 2013 qualifier against Croatia, Unitt scored the third goal of the victory and her 100th cap for the country.
A powerful left-back, Rachel Unitt has had a successful club career, in addition to her international success. Starting as a youth for Wolves Women and Everton, she signed a professional contract with Fulham Ladies in 2001.
