Lee Dixon


Lee Dixon is a retired English professional footballer, who rose to fame playing for teams such as Arsenal, Burnley, Stoke City and Chester City as a right-back. As well as playing for a number of domestic teams, Lee also had the opportunity to play football internationally being capped by the England national team 22 times.

Lee began playing football in his youth playing football in lower divisions. After finishing his education Lee became an apprentice at Burnley football club, before becoming professional in 1982. After achieving professional status Lee signed for Chester City, where he made 57 appearances before signing for Bury. Lee later played for Stoke City before he got his big break, the opportunity to play for the esteemed Arsenal football club.

In January of 1988 Lee was signed to Arsenal, his first opportunity of playing in first division football. His tenure at Arsenal was very successful and he helped the team to claim three FA Cup winner’s medals, a UEFA Cup Winners Cup and four League Championship medals. Lee was also fortunate enough to receive the accolade of the PFA Team of the Year award. The end of the 2001-2002 season saw Lee retire from football, ending his footballing career with a double-winning season. Upon retirement, Lee had impressively played at 91 out of 92 Football League grounds.

Lee also played football internationally, making his debut for the team in 1990 during a World Cup warm-up game. By 1991 Lee had played in a total of 11 international games for the team, and by the end of his career Lee had made 22 appearances for the team.

After his retirement from playing football, Lee did not want to leave his passion behind so instead decided to dedicate his time to being a football pundit and columnist. Lee worked regularly as a pundit for the BBC, featuring on the programme Match of the Day 2. He also made appearances on the shows Score and Football Focus, before leaving to become a pundit on ITV instead. As of 2013, Lee became the co-lead commentator for the Premier League on NBC Sports, featuring alongside Graeme Le Saux. Additionally, Lee has lent his voice to the FIFA 19 video game, co-commentating the matches in the game.
