A prolific German centre forward who represented some of the biggest and best football clubs in Europe, as well as won the 1990 FIFA World Cup and Euro 1992 with Germany, Karl-Heinz Riedle is a football legend.
Riedle's career began with FC Augsburg where he quickly proved himself a lethal striker, scoring 31 goals in 80 appearances, 20 of which came in the 1985-86 season when he became the club's top scorer.
After a season with Blau-Weiß 1890 Berlin, where he was powerless to stop the club getting relegated, despite 10 goals in 34 appearances, Riedle joined Werder Bremen, helping the to a memorable title win in 1988.
It was in the 1990 FIFA World Cup where Riedle was to cement his name into footballing folklore. Franz Beckenbaeur selected the striker to support first choice strikers, Klinsmann and Rudi Völler as Germany won its third title. He would then score twice two years later in the UEFA Euro 1992 campaign's semi final to finish the tournament as joint top scorer and help Germany to win the competition
After three impressive years with the club he joined a talented Lazio team for 13 million Deutschmark. A move to Borussia Dortmund would follow as Riedle became part of the successful side that won the Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup double in 1994-95 before winning an unprecedented treble of the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and DFL Super Cup the following season, to firmly put the club on the map. He would finish his career with spells at Liverpool FC and Fulham, where he would manage after his retirement in 2000.
Following significant success in his playing career, Riedle continued his high-profile into his media career. He is a regular pundit and commentator for Bundesliga fixtures and has presented on Eurosport, DSF, Sat 1 and SF1. He has played in legends matches for both Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC.
