Jim Smith


Former footballer and retired manager, Jim Smith, has made nearly 250 appearances in the Football League’s Fourth Division. Following this, he was transferred to Aldershot in 1961, for the season. Jim then moved to Halifax Town, Lincoln City in 1968 then Boston United, serving as a player-manager for 200 appearances. Whilst with Boston, Jim played in every single one of the club’s competitions. After such an influential playing career, Jim then dedicated his time to managing, starting with Boston. Under his leadership, the team achieved the top four spot in the Northern Premier League as well as getting to the third round of the FA Cup in 1972. Upon moving to Colchester in 1973, Jim then managed them to the Football League Fourth Division, after being promoted.
