Gordon Taylor OBE is a British born football speaker and former Birmingham City player who is known for his career both on and off the pitch, playing in the winger position for a number of clubs throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s Taylor has gone on to work as a sports speaker for the Professional Footballer’s Association and is rumoured to be the most highly paid union chief in the world.
Beginning his career as a football speaker and player in the late 1950’s Taylor played for the Bolton Wanderers during both his amateur and professional career, graduating to the first team after two years as an amateur in 1962. Gordon Taylor OBE would continue to play for Bolton until 1970 when he moved to Birmingham City.
Whilst at Bolton Taylor played almost 250 games and scored more than 50 goals, he became a favourite amongst both his team mates and fans and continues to appear as a guest at the club’s various after dinner speaker events. As well as working as a sports speaker for Bolton Gordon Taylor often represents Birmingham City, where he played for six years and Blackburn Rovers where he spent a total of two years (spending one season on loan to the Vancouver Whitecaps).
Since his retirement in the 1980’s Gordon Taylor OBE has worked in football governance, working as a football speaker for FIFA’s football committee and as an executive of the English footballer’s trader’s union, he has a degree in economics which has helped inform his decisions as a PFA executive and is frequently called upon to appear at FIFA, PFA and other sporting conferences as well as corporate and private after dinner speaker events.
