Frank consistently showed flair and skill during his time playing football, noticeable traits which landed him the approval of fans and press alike. Beginning his career with Huddersfield Town in 1966 Frank Worthington had long intended to become a professional footballer. Additionally, Frank’s nephew Gary would later go on to play for Frank’s old team, Huddersfield football club.

During his professional playing career, Frank Worthington made more than 750 English appearances and played for more than a dozen British teams. Worthington’s longest-serving roles were for Huddersfield Town, Leicester City and Birmingham City. Worthington made his first appearance for a foreign team in 1979 when he went on loan to Philadelphia Fury, playing for the team for a single season.

In 1987 Frank Worthington made his first appearance as an after-dinner speaker and football manager when he began managing Tranmere Rovers. Frank managed this team for two years, supplying them with his inside knowledge of the pitch and making a number of significant contributions to the success of the team. Frank made further attempts at management in 1991 when he began working as a sports speaker and player-coach for Halifax Town where he gained some success during his two-year tenure.

Frank is considered to be a positive role model and team player within the sport, with experience both on and off the pitch.
