Former footballer turned TV presenter, Dion Dublin played professional football as a popular centre-forward for the likes of Leicester City FC, Manchester United FC and Aston Villa FC. A footballing career spanning more than 20 years helped Dublin to earn and develop some of the most sought-after and effective teamwork and leadership skills around.
Born in Leicester, Dublin played for a number of youth teams around Leicestershire before kick-starting his professional career with Norwich. He then moved to Cambridge United FC as a centre-half before his striker potential was recognised and he helped the team gain promotion to the higher leagues. Signed by Alex Ferguson in 1992, Dion played for Manchester United where he scored a total of two goals in his first 12 appearances.
Later, during the 1997-98 season, Dublin became joint top-scorer whilst at Coventry City FC and he won his first four full caps with The England Men’s Senior Football Team. He then arrived at Aston Villa with a bang as he managed to score a staggering seven goals in his first 4 games, the highlight being his hat-trick against Southampton FC and in only his second game at Villa.
He briefly played for Leicester City and Celtic FC before returning to Norwich City. Throughout his time here, he showed a strong contribution to the team’s fight against relegation from EFL League One. His efforts were recognised by fans as he was voted second in the Norwich City player of the year award and his contract was rightly renewed.
On the announcement of his eventual retirement, Dublin’s efforts were recognised as he was voted the Norwich City’s player of the year. He also won the Barry Butler trophy after his penultimate game and received a standing ovation from both teams supporters at his final game.
After making his mark as a player, Dion went on to work as a popular TV football pundit for Sky Sports. He also appeared on Ford Super Sunday, commented for many games including the UEFA Champions League and appeared on various TV shows including Match Of The Day 2 and Late Kick-Off.
