David Pleat

Player & Manager Turned Sports Speaker

David Pleat is a former English footballer turned manager and sports speaker known as both player and manager for Luton Town as well as caretaker for London club Tottenham Hotspurs. Embarking on his professional playing career in the early 1960’s David Pleat spent almost a decade playing a winger for a variety of British clubs including his home team Nottingham Forest. Since his retirement in 1971 however Pleat has worked as a manager and football speaker for similarly diverse selection of clubs including Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Though Pleat no longer works as a manager, completing his last managerial position as the Spurs caretaker in 2004 he continues to appear at sports speaker events at many of his previous clubs and remains a much loved player amongst many of his fans.

In more recent years David Pleat has made a name for himself as a football speaker and commentator, beginning his career change as a journalist for The Guardian newspaper David Pleat regularly contributed a column to the paper which discussed tactics and possible outcomes of tournaments, however he is probably most well-known for his work as a football speaker and co-commentator for Radio 5 Live and ITV.

He has also spent a number of years working as a commentator for the dedicated sports network ESPN. David currently works as the football speaker for Al Jazeera Sport.
