British cricket speaker and player, Sir Alastair Cook CBE was made Captain of the English Test and ODI team before he was even thirty years old and was is the youngest English player to make 1,500, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 runs in Test matches.
A world-famous cricketer Alastair Cook MBE began playing for his country aged just 21 when he was called as a last minute replacement to fellow cricketer and sports speaker Marcus Trescothick. Despite his record breaking early years Cook found himself criticised by pundits and cricket speakers for a lack of centuries during 2008. However, making two centuries the following year – helping to garner England’s first win against Australia at Lords since 1934 – helped to make Alastair Cook MBE the sporting legend he is today.
His career success has significantly boosted his appeal as a cricket speaker and now any appearance at after dinner speaker events or sporting functions draw large audiences.
Cook went on to break more records in 2011 when he helped England retain the Ashes title by scoring the second highest number of runs ever scored by an Englishman in a Test match, and in 2012 Cook’s achievements were given even more recognition when he was made Captain of the English national Test team.
Alastair continues to work as a cricket speaker, touring not only the UK but across the world to discuss both his own achievements and those of the English cricket team. As well as his work as a sports speaker Alastair Cook MBE writes a column for both The Daily Telegraph and the free newspaper, Metro.
Cook also works as an after dinner speaker and fundraiser for a number of charitable organisations, he has taken part in the Great City Race for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity and has modelled naked alongside his fellow cricket speakers and players James Anderson and Stuart Broad for the Everyman Campaign to raise awareness of testicular cancer.
