A track and field Paralympian, Stefanie Reid is nothing short of a sporting sensation that has competed for Great Britain and inspired the world! Reid's main area of competence lie within in category T44 long jump and sprint events and the incredible athlete has won multiple medals at European and World level with her most notable success undoubtably coming during the Paralympic games at both Beijing and London where Stefanie Reid won a bronze in the sprint and silver in the long jump.
At just 15 years old, Stef Reid's life changed dramatically. Already a talented sportsperson, with an eye on the rugby world stage, her dreams were shattered when a boating accident resulted in the amputation of her right foot. Fast forward to 2019 and Stef is a Paralympic long jumper, who competes for Great Britain. She is a five-time world record holder, long jump world champion (London 2017), and triple Paralympic medallist in the long jump (2016, 2012) and 200m sprint (2008). She has an honours degree in biochemistry, and away from the track works as a broadcaster, speaker, actor, and model. She is currently training for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
A 2008 summer Paralympian, Stefanie actually represented Canada in Beijing, where she won a bronze medal in the women's 200 metres - T44 event as well as competing admirably in her others events. After switching allegiances represent Great Britain at the start of 2010, in 2010, BBC presenter and producer Matthew Stadlen spent a day with Reid for the news programme The Road With… A Paralympian.
Featuring in the latest campaign for British high-street store Debenhams in 2013, Stefanie Reid became the first disabled model to be used in a campaign by a high street retailer. A truly trailblazing moment that paved a way for disabilities in the future, Reid also featured in the BritishVogue Magazine in April 2013 as the imagery celebrated diversity in the retail sector.
Despite not qualifying for the Commonwealth Games, Reid went on to win gold at the IPC European Championships, beating the former world record holder, Marie-Amélie Le Fur by 4cm. Appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to Paralympic sport, Stefanie Reid is most certainly a world-renowned figure with global acclaim that is held the highest regard around the world.
Stef is a member of the British Paralympic Association Athlete Commission and an ambassador for the Leprosy Mission UK. Both charities are committed to changing perceptions and improving opportunities for people with disabilities.
