Lord Ian Botham

Lord Ian Botham is a retired international cricketer who is regarded as one of the world's greatest ever all-rounders. A winner of many awards due to his star-studded career, Ian is no stranger to success. In 2018, Ian was named in England's greatest Text XI by the ECB following England's 1000th Test Match. A unique sporting career, Ian also spent time as a professional footballer for Yeovil Town and Scunthorpe United before leaving the sport behind to focus on his beloved cricket.

Throughout his career, Ian played for a number of different county teams. He started his career out at Somerset in 1974 and would play for the West Country side until 1986. He then played overseas in Australia for state side Queensland before the English season started and he played for Worcestershire. Ending his career at Durham, Ian has built a great relationship with the county and is now the current chairman.

During his international career, Ian played 102 test matches and 116 one day internationals, In this time, he scored 14 centuries and over 7,000 runs with the bat, as well as taking 27 five-wicket hauls and over 500 wickets. For over two years of his international career, Ian was the all-time leading wicket-taker in test cricket, he was also the first player ever to score a century and take ten wickets in a single test match.
