Sir Clive Woodward OBE

Sir Clive Woodward OBE is a former rugby union player and coach who is considered a legend of the game. He was the head coach of the England national side during their successful 2003 Rugby World Cup campaign in which England won their first ever World Cup. Now spending a lot of time as a rugby speaker, Woodward is an expert in teamwork and leadership skills. He often reflects on his time coaching England and how he managed and controlled players who were the greatest rugby team of the moment. He is sure to engage his audience and provide invaluable advice for business and social groups.

Playing for teams English giants Harlequins and Leicester Tigers as well as some other sides, Woodward was a fantastic player but his legacy was built from his managerial expertise. He represented England as a player on 21 occasions between 1980 and 1984, as well as playing for the British and Irish Lions twice too.

The first team Woodward coached was Henley in 1990, he moved to London Irish in 1994 and then to Bath in 1997. When Jack Rowell retired as the England coach in 1997, Woodward was appointed for the job and it was his role to develop the squad so that they could compete against rugby powerhouses like New Zealand and Australia.

England improved under Woodward and won two Six Nations in 2000 and 2001. Two years later they went one better and completed the Grand Slam in the six nations, a perfect way to prepare for the upcoming World Cup. Woodward guided England to their first win in New Zealand since 1973 and also their first ever win on Australian soil. Later in the year he guided England to their first ever World Cup tournament win, a tournament which will go down in rugby history and Woodward will forever be the man remembered for coaching the winning squad.

A true legend of the game and all-round fantastic person, Woodward now spends his time providing after dinner speeches for any type of event or occasion. He possesses great presenting skills and has a world of knowledge in many business related topics such as achieving goals, maximising success and realistic ambitions.

“Sir Clive was a pleasure to have with us last Wednesday, he was very professional and personable and nothing seemed to be too much of an ask. Our clients CEO was extremely happy that the brief was met and enjoyed his company for the evening. The delegates remained engaged throughout the speech and enjoyed the Q&A where Sir Clive stood and answered questions and provided anecdotes of his career that were very entertaining. The use of slides and video clips were well used throughout and the clear link to his leadership style through business and sport was very well received. We would undoubtedly recommend Sir Clive to speak at future events.”

“The whole night was a success but CW was the star attraction and there was a really good atmosphere from start to finish. Sir Clive was on time at 6:30 and stayed for drinks up on the walkway – and was spot on in between! Signed every book (all 70 went to new homes), gave an “inspirational” presentation getting plenty of laughs too in the right places.” – Thomson Reuters

“It was a great pleasure to meet Sir Clive, and his presentation was incredibly well received. His presentation was aligned perfectly with the day, while also being very engaging and entertaining. It was the key highlight of our meeting; excellent feedback was received all round. Please extend our thanks to Sir Clive once again.” – Vicky, Vivid Medical Communications
