When Neil went off to Bath University to study Business, he already had his place at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and the plan was to finish his degree and then spend the next five years flying helicopters in the Army. But after spending a year of his degree in America, and listening to some of their incredibly entertaining radio stations, he got a little side-tracked! For 30 years now, Neil has been kranking it up on our radios and TV.
Starting at Radio Wyvern he quickly moved to the Radio Luxembourg, The Great 208, for a short time before being poached by the mighty Capital Radio in London. It was there, working with the legendary Headmaster Richard Park, that he started to really develop his unique style of full-throttle personality radio. His Dr.Fox’s Surgery shows, Fox’s Jukebox, and the nation’s favourite Sunday afternoon Top 40, The Pepsi Chart, not only helped shape popular music radio culture, but turned him into one of the UK’s most-listened-to, best-loved, and multi-award winning broadcasters.
With his long-time friend Simon Cowell, Foxy moved on to our TV screens as a judge on the ground-breaking Pop Idol which led to endless appearances fronting, hosting and guesting on numerous shows over the next decade. He also moved over to Magic Radio, working again with Richard Park, to start a new breakfast show and again it was a super-successful move: he took the show, and the station, to #1 in the ratings.
Neil’s experience over the last three decades, and the size and scale of the shows he has hosted over the years, whether on radio, TV or Live, put him into a very exclusive club. Having entertained and performed for literally millions of people at huge live events, hosted the biggest entertainment shows, and presented some fascinating corporate events and award shows, he has always been the consummate, unflappable pro, who manages to take it all in his stride, while leaving the ego outside.
Neil’s knowledge and passion for popular music is second-to-none and is why so many programmes have turned to him as a social commentator on so many music-related and entertainment stories over the years. And his unique interviewing and broadcasting style has given him the ability to interact with everybody on the same level…whether it be his listeners of all ages and from every walk of life…to the world’s greatest movie and music superstars. And the list of stars he has spent time with, and interviewed, is quite incredible from Madonna, George Michael, Elton John, Michael Buble, and Beyonce …to Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Brad and Angelina….well you get the idea. It’s been a total Who’s Who ( …..and has he got some great stories!).
There have always been two sides to Neil…the fun, creative, energetic, brilliant live entertainer Doctor Fox….and the person who can look at himself, and the wider entertainment world around him, through a different set of eyes as a businessman. As well as continuing his radio work, Neil has his own production company through which he is helping produce some exciting new TV and audio formats. Plus he is the Creative Director of a media company responsible for creating and launching a brilliantly addictive new music game called Beat the Intro, which is available as a free App or can be now be played worldwide on Amazon’s Alexa platform. Just ask Alexa to “play Beat the Intro” and give it a try! You may recognise the voice...
