British comedian and writer Barry Cryer has had a long and prolific career in which he has worked alongside some of the biggest comedians of the last thirty years. Beginning his career in his home town of Leeds Barry went on to spend a number of years performing at the infamous Windmill Theatre in London where stand-up comedians would perform in between nude tableaus and musical numbers.
Forced off stage due to a serious skin condition, Barry Cryer began working as a writer, providing material for comedians such as George Burns, Jasper Carrott, Tommy Cooper, Les Dawson, Dick Emery, Kenny Everett, Bruce Forsyth, Bob Hope, Frankie Howerd, Richard Pryor, Spike Milligan, Mike Yarwood and The Two Ronnie’s.
Returning to the stage later in life, Barry became known for his work with fellow comedian David Frost in A Degree of Frost and The Frost Report. However, Barry Cryer is probably best remembered for his work with the infamous Morecambe and Wise for whom he wrote two of their most successful Christmas specials during their heyday of the 1970’s.
Having been awarded an OBE in 2001, Barry was honoured not only for his work as a comedian and writer but for his vast work on television as a presenter and host. Barry remains a popular and prolific writer, working both within the media and producing his own comedy books, alongside this Barry is often called upon to appear as a guest on radio panel shows including previous appearances on I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue and Hello, Cheeky!

“It was a very refreshing change to have a celebrity who was happy to mingle with everybody before the event, and stayed long enough to actually watch the awards ceremony. A brilliant performance.” - William Reed
"A thoroughly entertaining stand-up of the old school. Quick-witted, sharp and very much to the point, he was excellent." - BVRLA
"Barry Cryer - what an excellent choice! Barry shows the same humour and wit both when on stage - and off. He was a great hit with our guests, never too busy to enter into short polite conversations - which left them laughing. Quite a gentleman." - The Concrete Society
