Football is, without a doubt, the global game. No matter what country you’re from, you will at the very least be aware of the existence of football, although it’s fair to say that billions of people enjoy playing and watching the game. The 2014 World Cup final between Germany and Argentina was watched by a billion people, while more than three billion tuned in across all 64 games.
At Champions Speakers we have a wide array of football speakers on our books. These talented individuals, who all have enjoyed careers at the highest level, come with experience, great anecdotes, and an ability to connect with an audience.
Here are just some of the illustrious football speakers that we can book for your corporate conference or sporting event:
Peter Shilton OBE
Widely regarded as England’s best goalkeeper since World Cup winner Gordon Banks OBE, Peter Shilton OBE helped the Three Lions to the semi-finals of Italia 90, where only a penalty shootout against eventual winners West Germany stopped them from reaching the finals, while four years earlier, Diego Maradona’s infamous Hand of God cruelly denied England the chance to reach the final four in Mexico. He fared better on the club stage by winning several trophies with Nottingham Forest, including a First Division title and back-to-back European Cups. As an individual who has reached the peak of the game, he is able to completely entrance a crowd for long periods of time as an after dinner speaker.
Alan Shearer OBE
The Premier League’s all-time top scorer, a championship winner, a prolific England great and a Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer OBE is one of the most loved English footballers in recent years. He established himself at Southampton before signing for Blackburn Rovers, where his 34-goal tally helped Blackburn secure the Premier League title in 1994–95, before signing for his boyhood club and helping them to runners-up finishes in the Premier League and FA Cup. As an after dinner speaker he is able to divulge a wide array of incredible anecdotes from the upper echelons of the beautiful game.
Ayr-born Alan McInally began his career with a bang, scoring 32 goals in 93 appearances for Ayr United and subsequently moving to Scottish giants Celtic, where he won his first medal in the 1985-86 season after taking the title on goal difference from Hearts. Moves to Aston Villa, Bayern Munich and Kilmarnock followed before he embarked on a career in sports media, where he continues to work today as part of the well-loved show Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports. As a result, he is an ideal after dinner speaker, as he mixes humour with interesting stories and actively enjoys talking to and with people.
Matt Le Tissier
Part of an ever-dwindling group of one-club players, Matt Le Tissier spent his entire professional career at Southampton, his loyalty garnering special affection from Saints fans who nicknamed him “Le God”. Regarded as one of England’s most talented players ever, Matt was a creative and technically gifted attacking midfielder, with an eye for goal, known for his ball striking, and ability to get into good attacking positions, in addition to his vision and ability to create chances for teammates. Like Alan McInally, he is now recognised primarily for his work on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, and his bubbly and charming personality is perfectly suited to after dinner speaking too.
Peter Schmeichel MBE
Widely described as one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Peter Schmeichel MBE is best remembered for his most successful years at Manchester United, whom he captained to the 1999 UEFA Champions League to complete the Treble, and for winning UEFA Euro 1992 against all odds with his native Denmark. A fierce competitor, he won a total of 23 trophies during his illustrious career, and as a football speaker he is able to summon some of the greatest memories of Premier League football, as well as reminiscing about Denmark’s finest hour.
