Team Great Britain have begun their 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games campaign, with the nation hoping for their most successful Games to date.
After months of controversial build-up to Sochi, the British Snowboard Slopestyle and Figure Skating teams began on Thursday to qualify for their respective events. Jamie Nicholls got the nation off to a great start in Snowboarding, qualifying fourth in the Slopestyle discipline and securing a place in the final with hopes of adding to the team’s medal tally.
Team Great Britain have set out an ambitious target of between three to seven podium finishes, with the hope of achieving their best ever medal tally and breaking the current record of four medals, set at the 1924 Winter Olympic Games.
The Sochi Games have reportedly cost £30 billion, creating the largest and most comprehensive range of platforms ever available for Winter Olympic athletes to compete in front of a global audience. With some of the most difficult and largest layouts of competitive disciplines to feature, the Games will be the most exciting and extravagant yet.
