‘Golf Shot Of The Year’ Passes 1.5 Million Views On YouTube
One of the most incredible golf shots ever caught on camera has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on YouTube. The short clip, filmed at the 2013 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship, has become an internet sensation and has been covered extensively by the international media including Sports Nation, Major League Baseball Network, ESPN and Sky Sports News.
The clip features Nottinghamshire businessman Matt Wheatcroft and Ryder Cup legend Brian Barnes. Finding himself up against a fence post after his tee shot, in a moment of inspiration, Matt opted to hit the ball against the fence in an attempt to get onto the green. The results are truly breath-taking and the shot has been celebrated by professionals and golf fans alike for its audacity and inventiveness.
Barnes, who played in six consecutive Ryder Cups, commented “Incredible.. I’ll tell you what, Mickelson couldn’t have done it!”. The clip turned Matt into an overnight sensation and his shot gained the deserved title of shot of the year. Matt credited his love of crazy golf for having the vision to play the shot and was delighted with the outcome.
The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship, hosted annually at the stunning Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire, celebrated its 80th anniversary this year and was hosted by golf legend Tony Jacklin CBE.
