The exciting new electric global motorsport series, Formula E has chosen Donington Park Circuit in Leicestershire as it’s new global operational base. The new motorsport championship will take place in some of the world’s largest cities, with Beijing being the first destination in September 2014. The new 44,000 ft² bespoke premises will house all ten race teams along with offices, workshops and stores.
At a cost of £5.7 million, the new centre will create 150 jobs and kickstart growth for Donington Circuit as a centre for electrical technologies after losing out to the British Formula 1 contract in late 2009.
Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E is pleased with their choice;

The new clean energy motorsport series has attracted many infamous figures from media and corporate world’s to invest into the promotion of electric vehicles for the future. Film star Leonardo DiCaprio has recently become a co-owner of the Venturi Race Team, joining the likes of billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson, who has entered the Virgin Racing Team into the championship.
The new Headquarters at Donington Park means both DiCaprio and Branson will be making appearances within the county to watch the development of their cars.
