Barlow, Lineker, Shilton and Others Team Up On New World Cup Song

A host of celebrities, including 11 former England internationals, joined together to record the official World Cup song ahead of the upcoming tournament in Brazil. Led by former England striker and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, funds raised from the single will be donated to Sport Relief.

Some of the former footballers that took part included Peter Shilton OBE, Glen Hoddle, David Seaman, Michael Owen and Sir Geoff Hurst. Other big names to take part included Take That’s Gary Barlow, former Spice Girl Emma Bunton and pop star Pixie Lott.

The video will make its debut on Sport Relief night on 21 March with all proceeds from the sale of the record going to charity.

Peter Shilton is no stranger to World Cup songs having featured on the 1970 song Back Home and 1990 World Cup number one song World in Motion by New Order. He said: “It was great to meet up with so many of my friends to record the new World Cup song – it was fantastic fun and all for a very worthy cause!”
