Solo artist and X Factor star Jay James rocketed into the public eye when he made his first appearance on the show in 2014. Garnering widespread international acclaim with his debut audition Jay James went on to become a finalist on the notorious music act competition. Now a Jay is a member of multi-platinum selling group The Overtones and Broadcaster for Forces Radio BFBS.
With a truly unique voice Jay James quickly gained the attention of the X Factor judges, his renditions of Say Something and 500 Miles both achieving great praise, even causing Simon Cowell to state that he expected James to win the overall competition. Despite losing out on the winners record deal Jay James has moved beyond the limitations of the X Factor and has established himself as a solo artist in his own right.
Embarking on the X Factor tour after the end of the show James has already played a number of major venues and performed before more than 300,000 people. He has performed live at some of the UK’s biggest arenas alongside his former X Factor music acts, now however he has moved to stand on his own two feet and is set to become on the of the biggest RnB stars in recent UK history.
Writing and producing for other solo artists as well as focusing on his own career Jay James has produced his own original music; his past life as a Royal Navy fitness instructor has inspired James, whilst his recovery from a serious injury sustained whilst serving in the Navy has also made him an icon of the armed forces. Placed on the Royal Navy Role Model Scheme Jay James’ became known across the armed forces and he was the first singer/songwriter in the Navy to ever be given a ‘career break’ in order to pursue an alternative career.
More recently Jay James has begun working with some of the biggest writers, producers and solo artists in the UK, he has collaborated with a variety of musicians, recording in London, New York and LA. He released his debut album Play it by Heart in 2012 to global critical acclaim and gained a top ten RnB chart hit with his debut single Long May they Roll.
