English Comedian, broadcaster, newspaper columnist and author, Mark Steel, is a stand up comedian best known for his left-wing beliefs. He has written and performed several radio and television series for the BBC, and authored multiple books demonstrating an impressive 25 years and over worth of experience.
In the early years of his career, he presented a satirical radio show called The Mark Steel Solution on BBC Radio 5, which ran for four series. In 1996 he published a comical autobiography called It Not a Runner Bean, which led Steel to receive his own column in The Guardian. He wrote for The Guardian from 1996 to 1999, and then started writing a column in The Independent newspaper, which he has continued to do since 2000.

Alongside his popular radio programme The Mark Steel Lectures on BBC Radio 4, Steel also wrote and presented the corresponding TV show to the radio programme that aired on BBC Four from 2003 to 2006.
Being a big believer in socialism, Steel was a long-standing member of the Socialist Workers Party, where he supported strikes and demonstrations. He was present at the Southall riots in 1979. In 2000, Steel represented London Socialist Alliance for the Croydon and Sutton constituency in the London Assembly elections. He also endorsed the parliamentary candidacy of the Green Party’s Caroline Lucas in the 2015 General Election. In 2007, Steel decided to leave the Socialist Workers Party.
