Ali Cook is a popular English actor, comedian and magician, nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award (BAFTA) in 2015, for his characterisation of Sgt. Paul “Spud” McMellon in the film Kajaki. Initially, Cook’s career started in television on Channel 5’s sketch series the Jerry@Trick Show. writing and starring in seven of his own comedy and magic series for Channel 4, Channel 5, and Sky One. Monkey Magic on Channel 5 was nominated for The Golden Rose of Montreux. Another of his shows that he starred on was nominated for a British Comedy Award and The Golden Rose of Montreux, this was Channel 4’s late-night show Dirty Tricks.
In more recent years, Cook has starred in the prestigious France 2 series Le Plus Grand Cabaret du monde. He also starred in the ITV’s first series of Penn & Teller: Fool Us magic competition show hosted by Jonathan Ross, and in 2016 was part of multiple episodes of ITV’s Emmerdale as well as BBC’s Christmas series special The ABC Murders, based on the well know book by Agatha Christie.
Not only has Cook had success in the television industry, but he has also appeared in multiple films throughout his career, most notably Kajaki, which won Producer of the Year Award at the British Independent Film Awards in 2015. Cook has starred alongside huge names such as Noel Clarke, Ian Somerhalder, Brian Cox, Luke Treadaway and Luke Hemsworth. Cook has written and performed multiple sell-out Edinburgh magic shows, such as A Touch of Vegas (2008), Pieces of Strange (2010), and Principles and Deceptions (2011), which have all been critically acclaimed. He is known to regularly go on tour with his popular comedy shows around the UK and internationally.
