Kirk Borne

PROFESSOR OF ASTROPHYSICS AND COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE AND EXPERT IN DATA BASES AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Kirk Borne is a leading public speaker and former George Mason University professor of astrophysics and computational science, a position he held for 12 years before joining Booz Allen in 2015. During his career, Kirk has also been an undergraduate advisor for both the GMU data science program and the computational science and informatics PH.D. program.

Kirk’s extensive experience in scientific data mining, large scientific databases and information systems has meant that his expertise have been invaluable to a wide variety of NASA projects. Kirk has acted as a data archive project scientist for the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as assisting with NASA’s Astronomy Data Centre and Space Science Data Operations Office.

As a contributor to the design and development of the new Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, he provided his expertise in the areas of science data management, informatics and statistical science research, galaxies research, and education and public outreach.
