David Ferguson

David Ferguson is a leading expert in digital innovation and strategies of sustainability. Currently the Head of Digital Innovation at EDF China, David has spent over a decade working with EDF to pioneer the future of the business. Driving improvement, David has helped to ensure that the business has a comprehensive approach to sustainability, covering both practical and cultural aspects of sustainability. A highly knowledgeable individual, David specialises in digital innovation, digital strategy, climate change, organisational behaviour change, stakeholder engagement and business ethics.

After graduating with a BSc in Environmental Geosciences and an MSc in Business and the Environment, David began his career as a consultant at The SMART Company. Working at the client-facing consultancy David gained experience of working with private and public sector clients, helping them with tailor-made CSR advice. After working with The SMART Company for two years, David was recruited as the Head of Sustainability at EDF Energy. As Head of Sustainability, David pioneered the sustainability of the business and managed a team of five. From coordinating action plans and being runner up for the Company of the Year Award to achieving double digits of reduction in carbon emission and waste, David changed the future of the business.

In 2010, David moved to the French sector of EDF Energy, working on the international sustainability of the business. David was able to help pioneer great things whilst working for EDF France, such as entering the company into FTSE4Good and the company’s involvement in the Rio +20 summit. David then returned to England, taking on the role of OSC Review Senior Consultant for EDF Energy. David began to work his way up the corporate ladder, landing roles such as Business Development and Collaboration Principal and Digital Innovation Manager. Before long he was appointed as the Head of Digital Innovation, a role in which he worked to explore cutting-edge digital technologies to enhance the future of the business. David has also acted as an advisory board member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group of Artificial Intelligence and the Non-Executive Director of the Exeter Science Park. 

In 2019, David made another big leap in his career and moved to China to become the Head of Digital Innovation China for EDF Energy. Throughout his illustrious career, David has changed the fate of sustainability and pioneered great digital improvement and change. He has built knowledge across a variety of sectors, from environmental to business and digital David’s knowledge knows no bounds. Now highly sought as a technology and innovation speaker, David is helping companies to realise the potential that new and emerging digital technologies offer the industry and how they can experiment with such technology.
