Martin Eberhard

Co-Founder & Innovator Of Tesla Motors

Most famous for co-founding Tesla Motors and revolutionising the electric car industry, Martin Eberhard is one of the leading innovators in the world. His insistence on the importance of utilising green energy has led to him being one of the most forward-thinking engineers of the century, earning him a place among Fortune Magazine’s top 24 innovators and Business 2.0 magazine’s Top 50 People Who Matter Now.

After studying at the University of Illinois, he put his extensive understanding of electrical engineering to good use. He founded and co-founded start-up companies such as Network Computing Devices Inc., which made X Windows-based network terminals and NuvoMedia, with Marc Tarpenning, in which they created the Rocket eBook.

In 2003, Martin and Marc founded Tesla Motors, which provided the answer to Martin’s love of sports cars as well as his concerns about climate change and the US’ dependency on foreign oil. Tesla Motors, the first automobile company to come out of Silicon Valley, transformed the electric car. The Tesla Roadster, despite not being the most affordable car, paved the way for other companies to start exploring a more environmentally-friendly way of building cars.

Martin has since left Tesla Motors, but continues to work hard in the pursuit of implementing green tech into as many aspects of engineering as possible. He has worked with Volkswagen, but most recently became Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of an emerging start-up in electric cars, InEvit Inc., that deals with energy storage, management and electrical energy components.
