John is a political economist with extensive business, policy and academic experience and has recently given keynote addresses to numerous high-level audiences, headlining at events run by the Mannheim Center for European Economic Research (ZEW), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, KPMG and Standard Chartered, the Institute of Directors, Handelsblatt, the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, Munich, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Retail Consortium. Wilton Park, Aspen Institute, Harvard University Weatherhead Center for International Studies, Ditchley Park, Economic Königswinter and the British Retail Consortium. He provides regular commentary on global economic affairs for Sky News, TRT, Handelsblatt, Bloomberg News, Aljazeera, and other international media.

He has been a member of the Association of Business Schools Innovation Task Force and an expert adviser on European Monetary Union to the Irish Joint Oireachtas (Parliament and Senate) Committee on European Affairs. He has been a member of the OECD National Innovation Systems in Catching-up Economies Expert and contributed to the Working Group on Innovation and Technology Policy, National Innovation Systems Analytical Findings. He was a member of the Aspen Institute Berlin High Level Expert Group on "Transatlantic relations" and participated as an author and policy adviser to the European Commission's High Level Expert Group on the Technologies (ICTs) on MNCS and SMEs in the European Union.
