Eliza is a speaker, writer and consultant, specialising in a history of Generations and contemporary values. Eliza looks at how the people’s values and behaviours are changing and the implications for politics, work, consumption, society and economics. She studies the evolution of generations rather than lazy generalisations; nuance and history is key. Her job is to differentiate between what is age-related and what is generation-specific.
Eliza published my first book God and Mrs Thatcher: The Battle for Britain’s Soul in 2015 based on her PhD; more on all the Thatcher stuff here. When writing about political change in the eighties, Eliza became more and more interested in the generation that were born in that era; Millennials. Out of which, spun a research career into generational change.
Whilst she was a full-time academic, Eliza realised that in an era of top-up fees and rising expectations, unis were not doing enough for the employability of their students. So, she founded GradTrain, a business which provides training workshops for graduates helping them develop their soft skills from public speaking to entrepreneurship. Since 2014 it has become one of the leading training organisations for universities in UK. She has written for the major broadsheets in the UK, from The Guardian, Times, Telegraph as well as reviewed for The Financial Times.
