Francois Baroin

President of the Association of Mayors of France

Francois Baroin was first elected to the French National Assembly back in 1993 and has since worked his way up through politics to become one of France’s most respected legislators and political speakers. The high watermark of his political career so far came between 2011 and 2012 when he replaced Christine Lagarde as Finance Minister in the Sarkozy government. Francois is currently serving as the Mayor of Troyes and working as an in-demand after dinner speaker.

Baroin is tipped for high office again when the political tide turns in France but in the meantime he flourishes as a business speaker with a keen interest in the public finances. As a trusted ally of Jacques Chirac and having served in the government of Dominique de Villepin, Francois has successfully handled a broad range of ministerial portfolios.

On top of his time in the Finance Ministry, in the last decade Francois has been the minister responsible for Overseas Territories, the Interior, State Reform and the government budget. It is this breadth of experience that adds a roundness of perspective to his work as a keynote speaker.

With an undefeated record in elections, Baroin is noted for his clarity as a political speaker at events across Europe. He brings the same simplicity to his engagements as a finance speaker, skilfully exploring the nexus between the public and private spheres. There remains a great deal of uncertainty over the global recovery and the fortunes of governments. This astute political speaker may well move on to become one of Europe’s premier statesmen in the coming years.
